      Looking for relatives of Martha (“Mattie”) Van Nest of Lexington Twp., Sanilac Co., MI. Mattie Van Nest married my great grandfather William Flannery in Croswell, Sanilac Co., MI on May 12, 1885. I believe Mattie was the daughter of Barney Van Nest and Elizabeth Arnot. I would like to exchange family information and photos.

      Hi Patrick, I can't recall if we have connected before, I have not been doing genealogy for awhile due to some surgery and I have a new genealogy program which I haven't put my data into it, but I am connected to the Van Nest's throught the Arnot's

      Obituary 1:
      Wellington Kemp, aged 57 years, was to have celebrated his birthday, but a few minutes after midnight death claimed him. Mr. Kemp had been ill for some time with tuberculosis, but it was his wish that he live long enough to celebrate one more birthday. The deceased resided at 1513 Poplar St. with his wife and family of grown-up children. The remains will be taken to Croswell for burial.

      Obituary 2:
      Wellington Kemp, who formerly lived north east of Croswell, but for the past few years has been a resident of Port Huron died in that city last Monday morning and the remains were brought to Croswell for burial. The funeral was held from the Methodist Church, Rev. Card officiating.

      Obituary 3:
      A sad death occured Monday, Sept. 2, 1912, in the passing away of Mr. W. R. Kemp who died on his fifty-seventh birthday.

      Mr. Kemp was born on the farm near Croswell where he resided until two years ago when the failure of health caused him to leave the farm and move to Port Huron.

      The deceased had many friends and was highly esteemed. He is survived by a widow, five daughters and two sons. The daughters are Mrs. H.C. Lynn of Almont, Mrs. Herman Reed of Port Huron, Mrs. L.R. Turk of Detroit, Mrs. Carl Hawks of Buel, and Clara, at home. The sons are Walter and John of Croswell. He also leaves four sisters and one brother. The sisters are Mrs. Martha Tyler and Mrs. Lizzie Kenney of Carsonville; Mrs. Alice Dean of Sandusky, and Mrs. Emma Thayer of Medford, Oregon. The brother is William, of Croswell.

      The funeral was held from the M.E. church at Croswell, Sept. 4, Rev. Frank Card officiating.

      [NOTE: Wellington R. Kemp was born Sept. 2, 1855, in Lexington, Sanilac Co., Michigan, and he died Sept. 2, 1912, in Port Huron, St. Clair Co., Michigan. He was the husband of Sarah Jane Vannest, whom he married July 23, 1876. The sources of these obituaries are unknown. However, I suspect two of them came from the Croswell Jeffersonian and the Port Huron Times Herald.]

      Mrs. Sarah Kemp

      Croswell, Oct. 24 -- Mrs. Sarah Kemp, 81, resident here many years, died Sunday night in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Lewis R. Turk, Lexington. Funeral services will be held in Croswell Methodist Episcopal church at 2pm Wednesday with Rev. Hugh Townley, pastor officiating. Interment will be in Croswell cemetery.

      She is survived by two sons, John Kemp, Croswell and Walter Kemp, Port Huron; four daughters Mrs. H.C. Lynn and Mrs. William Lincoln, both of Croswell; and Mrs. Turk, Lexington and Mrs. Henry Konzer, Upper Darby, PA; a brother, Cephas VanNest, Detroit; four sisters; Mrs. Elizabeth Oldfield, Mrs. Phoebe Cody and Mrs. Walter Flannery all of Detroit, and Mrs. Frank Miller, Santa Monica, California.

      Mrs. Kemp was born July 5, 1857 and was one of the early residents of Croswell.
