Mary Jane Kyes
Mrs. Mary Jane Kyes, aged 90 years, died Monday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. E. Allen of Ten Mile road, West, after an illness of two years. Mrs. Kyes was born in Ontario, August 1, 1847. In July, 1867, she was married to John A. Kyes. In 1879, the couple moved to a farm near Elsie, Michigan upon which they resided until Mr. Kyes' death in 1908. Since then Mrs. Kyes made her home with her daughter.
Six children born to the couple, grew to maturity: Dr. S. M. Kyes of Oshkosh, Wisconsin; who died in 1928; E. E. Kyes of Modesto, California, who died in 1932: E. Kyes of Detroit, Michigan; Dr. W. S. Kyes of San Diego, California; Geo. A. Kyes of Holbrook, Arizona; and Mrs. W. E. Allen of South Lyon. There are also five grandchildren: Dr. Frank Kyes of San Diego, California; Mrs. Ralph Amund of Des Moines, Iowa; Miss Helen Kyes of Chicago; Mrs. Arthur Rhea (s/b Rea) of Hillman, Michigan, and Wilford Kyes of Holbrook, Arizona and three great-great grandchildren.
Mrs. Kyes was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church in South Lyon, transferring her membership here during the pastorate of Reverend Frank Watters.
Funeral services conducted by Rev. R. C. G. Williams were held Wednesday at the Phillips Funeral Home and burial took place at Riverside cemetery, Elsie, Michigan.

Mrs. Kyes was a half-sister of Mrs. Fred Ellis, Garden Street and Mr. Rueben Smith of this town. She was born a few miles east of Gananoque.
